Latest News on NYCC Incinerator Proposal

DEFRA Survey—please complete

Issue 46 - 5th September 2010

Hello,

Please find below the latest news from NYWAG & Others on the NYCC Incinerator Proposal.

 Hello ,

IMPORTANT - AREA MEETINGS - PLEASE ATTEND

As expected there has been very little publicity about these events. They are part of the public consultation exercise by NYCC.

Both the Hambleton and Craven agendas have been distributed and they say that the public will be invited to ask questions at the end without prior notification.

We need as many people as possible - especially from the local area of the meeting - to attend these meetings to ask questions and show that the public are really interested. All the local County Councillors should be there because the public meeting will be followed by a council meeting. It's vital that they know we think this scheme is pure madness.

Please encourage your friends in these areas to attend:

Decision Delayed
We have been told by NYCC that the vote by councillors on whether or not to proceed with the Allerton Park plan has been delayed from October 13th to December 15th. That does not mean we should slow down our efforts to make sure councillors understand all the arguments. It just gives us a bit longer. Please carry on doing all that you can to make public and councillors aware of what's happening and your views.

Other news
There are quite a few important things happening and some changes being made to the timetable. We'll keep you informed over the next few newsletters. If you want to help in any way, please go to the website
www.nywag.org and volunteer.

Sincerely

Steve Wright

The Coalition Government is currently reviewing waste and DEFRA currently has a survey on its website inviting comments on ways to reduce and manage waste; in particular this survey wants to know what people think about Waste Incineration. I would urge you to go to this website and complete the survey as a matter of urgency as it closes on 9th September 2010 - The survey can be found at http:// www.defra.gov.uk/corporate/consult/waste-review/index.htm
