Blot on the Landscape

BCB's stack would be visible from several rural villages across picturesque open countryside. It would also be visible from two conservation areas.

Environmentally friendly?

Of course not, it would be a complete blot on the landscape.

Tockwith Residents Association commissioned a report into the visual impact that BCB’s application would have on the landscape of Tockwith and surrounding areas. The investigation was undertaken by a specialist in this area and the full conclusions are available on the TRA Objection Link .

As part of this investigation a balloon survey was undertaken. A large helium balloon was tethered next to BCB’s premises at a height of 40m (the height of the proposed stack) and hundreds of photographs were taken from surrounding areas.

The photographs here have been annotated with a drawing of a chimney stack, set to the exact height indicated by the balloon survey.

We have not tried to capture the appearance of the stack in terms of diameter or colouration and from many directions it would in any case be seen as a silhouette against the skyline as from most vantage points the stack would protrude above the horizon.

The purpose of these annotated images is solely intended to indicate the locations that the chimney Stack would be visible from, and the height of the stack.

When you view these images we ask that you visualise the countryside as it is now, without the stack, and again with it. These photographs only cover a few locations, the stack would be widely visible throughout the area including from Tockwith, Cattal and Bickerton.

North Yorkshire County Council’s Principle Landscape Architect has concluded that the there are indeed landscaping issues but that these could be out weighed if there was a need for the plant. He has suggested landscaping schemes to mitigate the issue which clearly would have little impact.

We believe that NYCC has significantly underestimated the impact and if you agree pleasae write to NYCC to make them aware of this.
